Mindo: 5 budget-friendly activites for solo travelers

My Mindo Ecuador Adventure

Hey there! I recently visited the beautiful town of Mindo, Ecuador, while traveling solo around Ecuador. I couldn’t have asked for a more enchanting and safe destination. Mindo is a hidden gem nestled in the Ecuadorian cloud forest, offering a wide variety of exciting activities and natural wonders. Join me as I share my personal experiences and recommendations for the top five things to do in Mindo in this blog post and on my YouTube Channel – where you get more detailed information about the costs of all those activities.

Let’s dive in!

1. Visit a Butterfly Farm

During my trip to Mindo, I had the joy of visiting a beautiful butterfly farm. It was an amazing experience where I found myself surrounded by a mix of vibrant butterflies fluttering gracefully around me. Seeing their gentle beauty up close and learning about their life cycle was truly captivating. Don’t miss this chance to connect with nature in a special way!

2. Tarabita Mindo

Tarabita Mindo is an adventurous cable car ride that takes you across the lush cloud forest, providing breathtaking views of the landscape below. The feeling of being suspended in mid-air amidst the picturesque scenery was extremly funny. So, hop aboard the Tarabita Mindo and let your adventurous spirit soar! Find out more about all the costs of those activities in my YouTube video about Mindo.

3. Ruta de las Cascadas

Prepare to be mesmerized by the Ruta de las Cascadas, or the «Route of the Waterfalls.» I went on this picturesque hike with a girl I’ve met in my hostel dorm. I’m not the biggest fan of hiking alone but this trail is full of tourists so you don’t need to be worried when you don’t have a travel companion. We’ve seen many solo female travelers along the way. So, you will be fine, sister! The trail led us through lush greenery, crossing several bridges and revealing stunning waterfalls along the way. You will sweat and be chilly along the way. Don’t forget to wear good shoes as it can be quite slippery due to the wet trails.

4. Frog Concert at Lago Mindo

One of the most unique and enchanting experiences in Mindo is attending a frog concert at Lago Mindo. Imagine sitting by a tranquil lake as dusk falls, and the symphony of croaking frogs begins. It’s a surreal and magical experience, immersing you in the natural harmony of the cloud forest. After listening to the frogs we walked through the wide cloud forest of the hotel area and could see numerous insects and reptiles. Indeed a funny experience and cheap on top of that.

5. Hike the Yellow Bird House Trail

For nature enthusiasts like me, hiking the Yellow Bird House trail is an absolute must. The trail winds through the pristine cloud forest, offering breathtaking views and the opportunity to spot various bird species, including the vibrant yellow bird after which the trail is named. It’s a peaceful and rejuvenating hike, allowing you to immerse yourself in the wonders of Mindo’s biodiversity.

Where to Stay:
During my time in Mindo, I discovered some nice accommodation options that catered to my needs as a solo female traveler.

La Casa de Cecilia Mindo and Cinnamon House are two charming and comfortable guesthouses that provide a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

Alternatively, if you’re seeking a unique experience, consider staying at Hacienda San Vincente, which offers lodging and access to the Yellow Trail & Lodge, perfect for nature lovers.
